Playful Roots Nanny Share

Small Group Care with Heart and Intention

The Playful Roots Nanny Share is a small, home-based care program designed for families who want the connection and consistency of a nanny, with the social benefits of a small group setting.

Rooted in the Reggio-Emilia philosophy and Alberta’s Flight framework, care is guided by curiosity, gentle routines, and play-based learning that honors each child’s pace and individuality.

How it works

A nanny share brings together two or more families to share one caregiver — creating a cozy, community-style childcare experience.

Families share the cost of care while their children learn and grow together in a consistent, nurturing environment.

Care Model:

  • Up to 5 children aged 10 months- 5 years

  • 2-3 days per week, starting January 2026

  • Hosted in families’ homes (rotating or consistent)

  • Hours are to be decided with participating families

  • Our days are flexible but consistent, balancing free play, shared experiences, and rest. A sample rhythm might include:

    • Welcome & free play

    • Morning snack

    • Outdoor play or neighborhood walk

    • Story, songs, or creative project

    • Lunch

    • Rest/nap time

    • Afternoon play (sensory bins, art, dramatic play, or outdoor play)

    • Closing circle / pick-up

  • Care is $35 per hour total, shared between participating families. This rate reflects professional, high-quality care and helps cover not only my time with the children, but also the thoughtful planning, curriculum design, and materials that go into creating a rich, play-based learning environment.

  • The Playful Roots nanny share is inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy, which views children as capable, curious learners who explore the world through play, relationships, and creativity. Learning emerges from their interests, and the environment acts as a “third teacher” — inviting discovery, collaboration, and joy.

Our practice is also guided by Alberta’s Flight: Early Learning and Care Framework, which centers children’s well-being, belonging, and expression. It encourages educators to notice, reflect, and respond to children’s play as meaningful learning, supporting each child’s growing sense of identity and community.

Hi, I’m Sienna, the heart behind Playful Roots.
I hold a degree in Child Studies – Early Learning and Childcare and have been supporting families in Calgary for the past 10 years through early education and doula care.

My approach is inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy and Alberta’s Flight Framework, which view children as capable, curious, and full of potential. I believe in meeting families where they’re at and using evidence-based strategies to support each child’s holistic development — emotionally, socially, and cognitively.

Through play, storytelling, and gentle routines, I create nurturing spaces where children can explore, build confidence, and develop meaningful connections with the world around them. My goal is to help both children and parents feel grounded, supported, and seen.
